  1. Choose a Madam to be the first dealer. The dealer will also function as the scorekeeper for each round.

  2. Shuffle the deck well and DEAL 9 CARDS FACE-DOWN to each Madam. Place the remaining cards face-down along with the die in the center of the table as the draw pile.

  3. Each Madam may (but is not required to) play any two or more cards with a matching name or run, by laying the cards face up in front of themselves. You may not add to another Madam's cards at this time. Once all Madams have played their initial cards, gameplay begins with the Madam to the dealer's left and continues clockwise.

How To Read Your Cards

Your Goal is to be the first to get rid of all the cards in your hand.

You have three potential actions to take on your turn and may complete them in any order you choose (though your turn ends after you "Ask" and are told to "Work The Strip").

  1. Play any matches. You play may a matching set of at least two cards in your hand. You may play as many cards are you are able, but are not required to. If you have any card(s) matching a set played by another Madam, you play them in front of you as well, building off their set. You may also do this as many times as you are able.

  2. Play any Special Cards. Should you have  any special cards (cards with a black border), you may play them. These cards include bonuses, penalties, and cards with special actions. Each card has a description of what it does and can only be played on another Madam if it says "Madam of your choice". As with the other cards, you are not required to play any special cards in your hand.

  3. Ask. You must ask a Madam of your choice if they have a specific escort by name or run. This would look something like asking "Is Taylor working tonight?" or "Do you have any Apple Bottoms working tonight?"

  • If they have that card, they are required to give you all (if they have more than one) of that card or type in their hand. You must then play the newly created set. You will then ask another (or the same) Madam for a different card until you are told to "Work The Strip".

  • If they don't have that card, they will tell you to "Work The Strip" meaning you will draw a card and your turn is over. You may not play the card you have just drawn.

  • You cannot ask for special cards.

  • If you ask a Madam for a card that has already been played in front of them you will be required to instead give them the card requested and they must immediately play it. Your turn will end and you will be forced to "Work The Strip"

3. "Ask". You must ask the Madam of your choice if they have a specific escort by name or run from your hand.  This would look something like "Is Taylor working tonight?" or "Do you have any Apple Bottoms working tonight?"

  • If they have that card, they are required to give you all (if they have more than one) of that type of card in their hand. You must then play the newly created set. You will that ask another (or the same) Madam for a different card and continue until you are told to "Work The Strip!"

  • If they don't have the card, they will tell you to "Work The Strip!" meaning that you will draw a card and your turn is over. You may not play the card you have just drawn.

  • You cannot ask for Special Cards.

  • If you ask a Madam for a card that has already been played in front of them you will be required to instead give the card requested and they must immediately play it. Your turn will then end and you will be forced to "Work The Strip".

The winning Madam (if there is one) receives a Top Card Bonus.

They flip the top card of the deck and roll the die.  The highest value on that card is multiplied by the number on the die.

If the Madam pulls a special card, the draw again until the receive a name or run card.

  • Each Madam will total the cards played in front of them and then subtract any penalties to receive their final score.

  • All Madams with cards remaining in their hands receive a penalty:

    • -$100 for each name or run card.

    • -$1,000 for each special card (including unplayed bonus cards).

The dealer will write down all the winnings from that round and calculate the new totals, read the current rankings, collect the cards and pass the deck and scorecard clockwise. The new dealer will shuffle the cards well and deal a new set of 9 cards to each Madam, beginning the next round.

The round can may one of two ways:

  1. A Madam plays their last card, immediately ending that round. That Madam is considered the winner and gets the Top Card Bonus (see scoring below). If the only cards remaining in your hand are Special Cards, you must play them, ending the round.
